The Centre for Lifelong Learning (CLL) are delighted to announce the arrival on Sunday of 30 United Arab Emirates students and 2 group leaders for a 3 week English Language Programme held on campus.
The imminent establishment of an English Language School (which is currently under final accreditation process) has resulted in the success of the CLL to secure these students’ arrival, and we are delighted to announce that after a lot of organisation, they are here!
Dr Niamh Plunkett, Director of the Centre for Lifelong Learning said “In anticipation of the UAE Students arrival, we have developed close links with IT Sligo & NUI Galway's International Offices to provide collaborative events over the three weeks, giving our students an opportunity to meet with other UAE/International students living in the Sligo area.”
During the day the students will undertake English Language tuition, using a combination of classroom based and activity based learning. The students will improve their speaking and listening skills learning through activities such as computer games development, robotics, and cultural arts. “This activity-based learning will make the learning environment more fun and natural for all involved - something that is very important to us here at the Centre,” adds Dr Plunkett.
As well as English Language Tuition, the students also have a full schedule every evening and over the weekend of Irish cultural events, activities and excursions. They will be attending a Sligo Rovers Soccer & Gaelic Match, attending a training session with Sligo Rovers Goal Keeper Kieran Kelly, participating in tag rugby, trips to the Arigna Mines, Eagles Flying, a day in Dublin and a trip to our partnership university NUI Galway.
“We are delighted to have the students and their leaders here, and we hope they enjoy they’re stay with us,” notes Dr Plunkett
